- parents in the Alliance - (2151) accidental element zero exposure incident at Singapore International Spaceport: nearly 30% of children born in Singapore after the exposure suffer from cancerous growths. Kaidan's mother was exposed and Kaidan was born with biotic potential as a result. This is the 'first generation' of humans born with biotic talents. JUMP ZERO - (2167 - 16 y/o) L2 implants are developed and first used in humans to harness and channel biotic power in humans. Kaidan is one of the lucky few who doesn't experience crippling mental damage as a side affect and gets away with only severe migraines. - (2168 - 17 y/o) Kaidan accidentally kills Vyrnus, an ex-mercenary-turned- teacher. BAaT is shut down later as a result of the diplomatic fallout. - (2170 - 19 y/o) L2 implants are officially declared dangerous to human health and L3 implants are developed. Kaidan continues to use his old L2s. THE ALLIANCE - (2173 - 22 y/o) Kaidan enlists in the Alliance military. - (2183 - 32 y/o) The SSV Normandy (I) is built as a co-operative project between the Alliance and the Turians. David Anderson is made captain and Shepard is made XO. EDEN PRIME TO VIRMIRE (spoilers: Mass Effect) - (2183 - 32 y/o) The human colony of Eden Prime is attacked by the geth. The SSV Normandy lands soon after the attack and Kaidan is dispatched along with Shepard and the Turian spectre (agent of the galactic Council's Office for Special Tactics and Reconnaisance) Nihlus Kyrik to investigate. Nihlus is murdered by the rogue spectre Saren Arterius, a fellow Turian who had orchestrated the attack as the prelude to a larger conflict, who quickly flees with his ship Sovereign. Whilst persuing Saren, Shepard and Kaidan are introduced to Ashley Williams - an Alliance marine and last survivor of her unit after the geth attack. They deduce that Saren had attacked Eden Prime in order to access a newly-found ancient relic that the human colonists had been protecting: a Prothean beacon. After Saren escapes and whilst examining the beacon Shepard witnesses a Prothean 'vision' causing him to lose consciousness and the beacon to explode. Kaidan, Ashley and the unconscious Shepard are shortly extracted and Shepard is hurried to the Normandy's medbay. After fifteen hours of being passed out Shepard reawakens with no significant damage or ill-health besides a worrying inability to fully understand what it is the Prothean beacon's vision was trying to convey. Kaidan accompanies Shepard as he travels to the Citadel (the political centre of the galaxy) to expose Saren as a rogue agent and an ally of the Geth. While on the Citadel they meet Garrus Vakarian, a jaded Citadel Security (C-Sec) officer; Urdnot Wrex, a krogan battlemaster; and Tali'Zorah, a Quarian. All three eventually join the Normandy's crew. Saren is convicted and stripped of his status but little else is done to punish him. As a result of his help Shepard is made the first human spectre (Kaidan would go on to later become the second). Amidst the evidence provided by Tali against Saren it is revealed that Saren is searching for something called a 'Conduit' with the help of the a powerful Asari called Benezia to bring about 'the return of the Reapers'. Whilst the Council do not seem interested in what this might mean Shepard is given captaincy of the Normandy and the crew - including Kaidan - are sent under Shepard's command to apprehend Saren and bring him back to the Council. Their first lead takes them to track down the daughter of Saren's ally - an Asari scientist named Dr. Liara T'Soni. Liara is an expert in Prothean research and is able to shed light on Shepard's experience with the Prothean vision brought about by the beacon on Eden Prime. VIRMIRE TO ILOS (spoilers: Mass Effect)
